The Founder Mike Aho's career
Mike Aho is a veteran producer and TV show creator with deep expertise in unscripted development and production across linear networks, streaming platforms, short-form digital, and branded content. Known for his versatility and creative vision, Mike has built a career around crafting, selling, and producing compelling unscripted series in all formats.
His journey began when he moved to Paris at 18 to attend the Sorbonne, later graduating from UCLA’s School of Film and Television. As the recipient of the prestigious Charles Boyer Fellowship, Mike returned to France to launch his career in unscripted television, serving as showrunner and director for M6’s StarNews and Grandeur Nature. During this time, he wrote and directed several award-winning feature documentaries that helped cement his international credentials.
After a decade in Europe, Mike returned to Los Angeles and contributed to high-profile productions including Queer Eyeand The Bachelor. He also served as showrunner for TLC’s Take Home Chef, further honing his skills in premium lifestyle and reality content.
Throughout his career, Mike has consistently elevated and transformed content through innovation and leadership. He developed and produced two hit series for Glassman Media before becoming VP of Factual Television at Collins Avenue. At Shine America, he served as SVP of Factual, where he built a new unscripted division from the ground up, selling and producing several successful series. As Head of Development and Production at Core Media, he played a key role in franchise giants like American Idol and So You Think You Can Dance.
At Tastemade, Mike led the company’s transformation from a digital brand to a producer of premium streaming TV content. His leadership restructured workflows, boosted efficiency, and resulted in acclaimed series that earned both Emmy and James Beard Award nominations.
For the past three years, Mike has helmed his own production company, producing a wide slate of impactful series. Most recently, he founded Apparatus TV, a forward-thinking content studio that aims to reinvent how premium unscripted content is developed, financed, and produced—focusing on bold storytelling across genres including Western culture, wildlife, travel, and lifestyle.
Mike continues to be a visionary force in the industry, known for bridging creativity with strategy and turning bold ideas into compelling, successful programming.
